Live Interactive Projections for Dance and Theatre

Presented as part of Tuya Vale’s curated show Silt Freshwater, Cues and Waves is a collaboration between projection artist Grace Sun (@whengracecreates) and contemporary dance artists Averil Dubois and Amelie Mah (@mavmoves).

Throughout the ten minute duration of the work, the dancers move through a completely improvised score, finding new shapes, movement and moments of connection. At the same time, Grace takes a live camera feed of the dancers and mixes the interactive projections live. The result is otherworldly silhouetted projections of the movement that allow the creative reach of the dancer to transcend beyond the limits of their physical being.

Gallery: Experiments (2025-)

Photo documentation of movement and interactive projection research.

Experiments is a an ongoing research project, exploring how a dancer’s movement can be transformed and expanded using live interactive projections. Through using code to transform the dancer silhouettes’ angles, repetition, positions and relationships, new patterns emerge. The result is new compelling artwork that expands beyond the physical limits of the dancers creativity, expanding the canvas and world in which they can create.
