Grace Sun (she/her) is a Toronto-based new media artist creating in the intersection of interactive/creative technology and dance.
Grace specializes in real-time movement and audio interactive design for:
- Theatrical and live performance projection
- Public-facing exhibitions and activations
- Simple motion capture setups for film

Through her practice, she aims to create and explore a symbiotic relationship between performer and technology, questioning how they affect and control each other.
Her movement and creative tech explorations are informed by her years of experience as a dancer and choreographer.
Through her practice, she aims to create and explore a symbiotic relationship between performer and technology, questioning how they affect and control each other. What can we learn from each other? Who is shaping who? How do we preserve the human-ness and heart of traditional arts like dance, using technology to extend and enhance instead of erase?
She imagines her projection and video work as an expansion of a dancer’s creative limits, allowing them to imagine and play beyond the confines of their physical bodies.
Inspired by her experiences navigating identity, culture and community as a queer first-generation Chinese Canadian woman, she embraces creating from a space of uncertainty, curiosity, and in-between.
Her work as an artist is shaped by her love for the in-between, inspired by her experiences navigating identity, culture and community as a queer first-generation Chinese Canadian woman. she embraces creating from a space of uncertainty, curiosity, and in-between.
What happens when we embrace the unknown? When we combine our loves and our passions? What intersects, overlaps, what creates dissonance? What can we learn?
